A Smaller Footprint, One Pair at a Time

A Smaller Footprint, One Pair at a Time

Waste Was Already There

Long before Askel existed, the forest industry was already leaving material behind. Offcuts, fiber, surplus with no place left to go, most of it burned or discarded without a second thought. That waste didn't need to be created for this shoe to exist. It just needed someone to look at it differently.

Materials With Somewhere to Go

Fiber 360 and Fiber Core both start from that same surplus, wood fiber that would otherwise have gone unused. Using it instead of reaching for a purely synthetic alternative means less new material pulled from somewhere else, and less of what already exists sitting around with nowhere useful to go.

Made Close to Where It Starts

The material doesn't travel far to become a shoe either. Finnish craftsmanship carries this from surplus to finished product without the distance most footwear puts between where a material comes from and where a shoe ends up. Shorter distance, fewer steps, less footprint added along the way.

One Pair, One Choice

Nobody buys a single pair of shoes and solves anything on their own, and we're not going to pretend otherwise. But a smaller footprint isn't built from one grand gesture, it's built from choices like this one, repeated by enough people, often enough. A pair of shoes is a small decision. It's still a decision.

A Smaller Footprint, Worn Every Day

That's the whole idea behind the name. Not a footprint reduced once and forgotten, but one carried with you, step after step, in something you'd wear anyway. The smaller footprint isn't a feature you notice, it's just what happens when the material underneath was already headed somewhere better.
